Don't question it.

Haven't posted anything in a while. I attempted LD35 but couldn't get into it this time. Just wasnt feeling it I guess. But I have exams soon, so won't be posting anything for a couple more weeks, but then I'll try to get something quick out. I'm also planning on participating in the GDWC after I was invited to participate in the event. I feel quite flattered that they actually asked me.

Anyway, so I'm hoping to start a slightly bigger project at some point for that competition. Maybe one or two months (which is a long time considering the longest dev time I've spent so far is two weeks on barriers 2. Thats including school and stuff.) I hope I can make something super duper awesome!

So as promised, I released a game that is not a sequel. Survive is more of a tech demo to me, but it's gotten positive feedback and already has over 1200 views! The 3D world was very fun and new to make.

I've recently learned how to network my games so that two people on different computers can play together. It's pretty cool. I made a little demo of it with David (the artist for many of my games) and we got a basic version of survival working in co-op.

Ludum Dare is coming up next weekend and I plan on entering. It won't be as fun as last year when we made Stricken Chicken, since I'll be working alone, but I feel like my game development skills are good enough for me to make something really cool in the short period of time. I might even make it in 3D :)

So the last three games I've released (Showdown, Barriers 2, Showdown Arena) have been remakes of my older games. I hope to change this. While making a sequel is fun because I can fix all my old mistakes, and I know that it'll turn out well, I'm going to try limiting myself to them for a bit. I plan on doing Ludum Dare 35, which guarantees a new game here soon (3 weeks). I want to try experimenting with new things, which I did get to do,with a level editor in showdown Arena and particles in Barriers 2, but I also want to make a game from scratch, without already being able to just look at an older game and think about what should be improved.

Thanks to everyone who plays my games and gives reviews (good or bad), I'm excited to see what I'll be making once I'm more experienced at game development.

If you have a game released and haven't gotten much feedback, post it down in the comments below. I'll play them all and leave a review talking about what you did well, and what could make it better. I'm no professional, but I know a good game, and what makes it great.

Thanks!

Barriers 2 is coming soon!

With 15 brand new levels, updated graphics that don't make you want to throw up, and an awesome song (The chip that broke the moon, by Hikari and DiroNomer, http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/663443)

Thanks to tons of feedback on the first, I think I've made some better levels which are more fun and engaging. Considering the amount of people who had to play alone, you can now easily play the game single player, by pressing a button to change who you're controlling (multiplayer is still an option though). I'd like to say thank you to TheAdventMaster, TwinBlazar, DaggerPen and Filipe Sheepwolf for pointing me in the right direction.

So why do I need your help? Well, thanks to TheAdventMaster's comment, I'm using his idea of collectible items in the levels (love notes to be exact). Each level has one which takes a bit extra effort to get. So I wanted there to be a special ending for anyone who collects them all. I've toyed around with different ideas, whether it's an interactive cutscene where they get married, or just a level filled with trampolines that launch you in the air, just for fun. I'd like to hear your ideas in the comments below. It can be silly, sad, romantic, whatever, just shoot your ideas, give me every idea that pops into your head. You can put as many ideas as you need.

Thank you to anyone who comments. Barriers 2 should hopefully be out sometime this weekend, but it may take a bit longer. I still need to make a couple levels, main menu, some more playtesting etc.

Shout out to BrianDickerson and pluisje1234 for being my fans! I only have two, but it still feels good to have some :) Also thanks to DWallacee and cheflamma, but I know you guys in real life and we make games together, so you really don't have a choice...

Apple's journey was made in just 6 and a half hours. When I uploaded it, I was expecting a 2 star rating. It's certainly not a bad game but it has it's flaws. Luckily people seemed to like it and we got a three star rating. Not bad.

I made it with David, the artist for stricken chicken. This time, along with the art, he also did all the level design. It made a lot more sense to do it that way. While he was coming up with new levels, I was making the levels which were already designed in the editor and just fixed any flaws. I'm quite impressed with the game. It's simple and not hard to get into, yet still challenging. It was fun to experiment with this game mechanic of rotating the world. I think we did a pretty good job implementing it considering the time limit.

Unfortuantley it wasn't all perfect. The song was made in literally 5 minutes. And you can tell. There is also no reason for the player to care for the objective. I want to try and improve that for my future games. Also we haven't been given much feedback, and I have no idea why. normally I'd get a bunch right away. but we've only gotten two reviews this whole time. Wierd. Perhaps theres a deeper meaning and the illuminati are behind it. Who knows...

Go play apple's journey and my other games here on newgrounds. Thanks for reading this and please leave a comment. I always respond.

Recently updated Barriers to support webGL. While playing the game, I actually was able to stump myself, even though I made the game. I'm impressed. Good work slightly younger me. you did a good job.

The update makes the visuals really wierd for some reason, but whatever, it's still very playable.

Enjoy the update, playing barriers on chrome is nice and easy.

I just started working on android development. it's basically the same as making a web game in unity, however designing the game is a totally different process.

Just because I am doing android doesn't mean I won't still upload to newgrounds. I was thinking about putting a ported version of one of my android games (once it gets made) on newgrounds. I see a lot of games doing that here, and since newgrounds lets you set the resolution, it should be fine. But I'm not 100% sure. The views I get on newgrounds may increase my overall downloads, but if people don't like it because it's just a port and the controls aren't very good, I might actually lose some buisness. Also if people play on newgrounds, I might lose out on ad revenue on mobile (assuming I put ads in).

I think I'll still upload it to newgrounds. I like the site and the community, and since money isn't really my main concern right now, I'll probably be okay.

One other subject is the apple. Most of my friends have iPhones, and it would be nice to let them play the game if they wanted it. But I'll need 100 dollars for the license to put games on the app store, a mac to develop on, which I do have, but it's really slow compared to my PC, which is a struggle, and I don't have a device to test on. So we'll see about an iphone port depending on how well it does...

Any way thanks for reading this update on where I'm at game development wise. Leave a comment about what your doing in game dev. I like to read it, and I always respond, or go play one of my games on newgrounds :)
